Rough Collie critiques

JUNIOR (5)

1)      Steven’s BOUGHLEE LACE PATTERN. Pretty and feminine blue merle bitch of nice size and proportions. Her glorious silver jacket sparkled and shimmered like sunlight on frost. Lovely shape with well let down hocks, good neck and top line, on the move she was very collected, agile and effortless even in the scorching midday heat. Head is balanced with good stop, ears bang on top. Alert, cheeky and enquiring expression, would like a cleaner side skull but this should come with maturity.

2)      Hawkins BRILYN SING A RAINBOW. Ultra feminine tricolour bitch of 11 months. Very mature in head which is clean and balanced, her neat ears complement her pretty eye and expression. Her huge snowy white collar emphasises her super length of neck and contrasts well against her jet black coat. Needs to let down in the stifle and hock and this will come with maturity, at the moment her hind movement lets her down. BEST PUPPY.

POST GRADUATE (3)

1)      Williams ESSANJAY BLACK VELVET. Superbly constructed tricolour bitch in lovely condition, not glamorously marked but her combination of elegance, refinement, substance and femininity shone. On the move she epitomises true collie movement, floating around the ring with grace and power and totally effortless as if her feet were shod with angels wings. Good length of head with clean cheeks, neat underjaw and ultra flat back skull. Dark well set eyes, feminine expression. A picture of balance. Well deserved BOB

2)      Kenny’s STOKEDALE SPICE OF LIFE.  Young dog of rich sable colouring that possesses a very nice eye and expression, showed none stop and was beautifully presented. A shade too strong in head for me, moved ok.

OPEN (7)

1) Ridley’s WENCHAELA WINTER JASMINE. Another very feminine blue merle bitch, she scores in overall balance and length to height ratio. Gloriously coloured jacket is of excellent clarity. Loved her length of head with super clean cheeks, obliquely set eyes and sweet expression. Would prefer more underjaw.

Excellent side action on the move. In the challenge I had a trio of very nice bitches presenting an elegant picture as they moved around the ring.  RBOB

2) Kenny’s STOKEDALE SHADOW BLASTER            Well-known Blue merle dog in possession of one of the sweetest expressions I have ever seen, never stops smiling from those wonderful dark obliquely set eyes. His good showmanship serves to show this off to even greater advantage. He has a lovely neck and his coat is of good colour, super temperament. Unfortunately he is too short all over for me which detracts from the overall balance and prevents him striding out effortlessly on the move, had to give way to the elegance and balance of the bitch today.

3) Williams BOUGHLEE MIDNIGHT MAGIC FOR ESSANJAY.  Dam of my best of breed winner. Very attentive tricolour bitch with clean head of good length, super ears and an alert feminine expression although I would prefer a shade darker eye.

Nicely balanced with no exaggerations and a wonderful show girl. Moved well but lacked a bit of sparkle today.
