We have been devastated by the loss of my all time favorite
collie and at such a young age too, I couldn't bring myself to tell the world
via my home pages until we had buried him amongst the Apple trees here at
Wicani. Like King Arthur of the ancient legends, who was buried at Avalon
(island of Apples) we felt such a truly noble 'king of a Collie' should
respectfully be buried in like fashion. However, the grieving is slowly being
replaced by fond memories and we are now able to celebrate his life, which is as
it should be. He has been a magnificent animal to own in every sense of the
word, I am honoured to have bred and known him for 7.5 years, all of them in his
prime, I shall never have a memory of him as an 'Old' dog, he never showed pain
even in his last moments, and he died at home with dignity.
THANK YOU to the very many people that swamped my desk top with
tributes, condolences and fond farewells.
THANK YOU to the judges that did put faith in him and special thank you to Rene Cozens and Miranda Blake for awarding him his two CC.
He was Ill for only 8 days, and we discovered he had advanced Cancer of the
Esophagus, we were shocked and stunned, he had remained apparently fit and agile
the entire 7.5 years of his life. As we lay him down in his final resting place
we had to keep stroking him, almost sure he would awake from this strange sleep,
he looked so young, so dignified, so beautiful. Even death could not rob him of
this. He lies now beneath the snow, beneath the Apples and beneath the tangle of
Roses entwining the Orchard, blessed Be!
He leaves behind him some wonderful Children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren, too numerous to mention.
Also of course great great grandchildren in Canada, and still I see his
presence shining through them after all those generations and against a 50%
complete out-cross, so great was his ability as a sire.
Goodbye my beautiful 'Kharnivore' (his nick name) I used to sing a silly
song to him "Kharnivore, Kharnivore, wherefore art thou Kharnivore" now I know
the answer...he is dancing with the stars of heaven.
Khan had a 'presence' and 'panache' that moved people to flood to his bench at CRUFTS, i had many offers of Open cheques during his reign but this boy was never for sale. Neither was he ever for loan, although the requests became legion. We were humbled by his admirers world wide who consistently told me 'this boy is the TOPS' and he was indeed special, born to rule but never to fight. This dog never raised a lip to anyone or anything, he ruled with a look of impassive dignity, and yet he was also a clown. One day a puppy will be born here at Wicani, at an early age i will notice that 'special' expression and as he grows i will note the carriage, bone, substance, coat and regality. Then he will develop 'wings' and glide with never a misplaced foot, and one day when i am opening a gate, he will dance, yes he will dance a 'special dance' and i will gasp and know...for this will be the return of Khan!
I wait for that moment my beautiful boy, and i know it will come, maybe i will step through that gate to greet you on 'your side' but maybe...just maybe...you will be back at Wicani.
Khan won the minor puppy dog class at his very first show, this was the British Collie Club Championship show in 2004.
I knew as we led the adults around the ring in the Dog challenge, that something special was on the end of the lead, people rushed to tell me he had out moved everything...this puppy of tender months at his very first outing.
In my opinion he was robbed of his Title, but this is the way of Dog Showing, and who can know the reason? one thing is for certain, there are many in agreement with me!
As a sire he consistently produced the 'Khan type' which was unique to him and i am forever thankful for his ability as a sire, for he has left us a wonderful legacy to go on with. I had so many plans with him, so many dreams to fill, he looked so young, so healthy, i stupidly believed he and i still had miles to go!
Recently he won BOB at Southern Counties....gleaming with health and looking his best, and he took his first few Veteran classes with ease and style. God must have been missing an Angel...THE KING IS DEAD...LONG LIVE THE KING.
left his granddaughter Sassari Moonshimmer (2 CC)

I do wonder why this lovely tribute has been removed by the writer? Thank you Loraine Hannah for this wonderful tribute..
