I finally had my long awaited heart procedure done, we won't know if it has been a success just yet, but I am very pleased to be in this very hopeful position.
Our stunning young male Arthur 'Wicani By Sword and Sorcery' left us at Crufts with handler Denis Sabolic, he gone for one year and is now at stud with the Dennisays / Geantles Kennel. This does mean however, that all litters planned for this year to be sired by him in the UK cannot take place now until after his return to the UK at Crufts 2019.
We have therefore had a change of plan. Aisling (Wicani Ravishing) will be mated at her next season but the prospective sire is now Wicani Who Dunnit 'Sherlock' who we feel complements her well. Sherlock has a superb character, he is a solid soundly moving male with fabulous natural tail carriage. He has a very clean head without any trace of flair through the cheeks, and an excellent fill of muzzle. Aisling on the other hand is extremely feminine. She is due in season in May.
We also plan to mate our feminine young shaded sable female Wicani True t' the Mistress. Trudy is cea non carrier. The prospective sire is Magnum (Wicani Magnum Opus) the inbreeding COI will be well below the breed average in both litters, and characters should be extremely good too. These litters are designed to produce the classic style of Rough Collie, with strong legs, a long arched neck and the longer head type.
Great news today from Europe where the wonderful 'Arthur' attended his 3rd show in Croatia winning his 3rd CC his 3rd BOB and to cap it all, he won the Pastoral group!
In France, the lovely Ziggy (Wicani Sharp Dressed Man) took the CAC, the CACIB and BOB at his first International show with new owners Cathy and Gerard Sontag.
These two fabulous young tricolour males are flying the 'Wicani' flag for us and are making my heart sing, whilst I am not fit enough to show dogs myself, I am super proud of these achievements!
A long time since I updated this page and with lots of news! our first litter of 2018 are now 6 weeks old and looking fabulous, new owners will be able to collect them on or around 18th September by prior arrangement.
Our glorious blue bitch Churchoak Temptress at Wicani 'Jezebel' at 6.5 years has achieved her UK Champion title, we are extremely proud of her achievements in the show ring. She entered 2018 on a total of 1 challenge certificate and 4 reserve challenge certificates. She attended 3 shows. Her first show was Crufts where she was unplaced, but for several years that has become traditional in our kennel. Her second show was Lancashire and Cheshire Collie Club Ch show in May where breed specialist judge Viv Anderton of the world famous Karava Kennel awarded Jez her second challenge certificate (CC) Her third show was East Anglia Collie Club Championship show and we were elated to take Jezebel's third and crowning challenge certificate giving her the title of UK Champion (subject to kennel club confirmation) not only that but her kennel mate Wicani Blue Ivy attending her first show since returning to us in July won the reserve challenge certificate! Judge of the day was breed specialist Edith Pryor (Aqualita) Jezebels first cc was awarded her by breed specialist judge Steve Barrett (Brooklynson) so we are justly proud to say that Jezebel won all three of her challenge certificates under well respected Rough Collie specialist judges. Jezebel has written a new line into Collie history, being the very first UK champion Rough Collie to have an American import sire. Her parents are VAN-M GOOD FELLOW AT WICANI (import USA) and POLISH CHAMPION WICANI LIGHTS OF AMETHYST (dam of two champions and a CC winner) She also writes a new page in collie history because she is the very first collie proven to be normal eyed (by dna) to become a UK Champion!
Moving along to today (9th September) and news came in from a friend who lives in Italy but was showing over the weekend at a double cacib show in Croatia. WICANI HOOKEY TOM took 2 x CAC, 1 X CACIB, 1 x RESERVE CACIB, 1 X BOB, SHORTLISTED IN THE GROUP. Well done Lada with Hookey and well done Denis Sabolic for help in handling and presenting this dog to his victories.
Today we sent off samples of dna to discover the mdr1 status of our latest litter of puppies. Unless we already know the mdr1 status through parentage, we always test so that we can provide our puppy owners with this information. The puppies in this litter will ALL be normal eyed by parentage and free of DM by parentage. MDR1 could be either +/+ or +/- which is why we have sent in swabs for analysis, we like to provide this information to our puppy buyers.
We also have two new import males and are very excited to introduce them.
1) Dispiritos Eddie Ray says Hi Y'all.
Bilo os a tricolour male age 14 months, upstanding and elegant, he is a son of Ch Wicani Written in Legend and Wicani Pettiecoats A'Flyin. He is CEA non carrier.
2) Dispiritos Legend of Kalevala for Wicani
Valour is a blue merle of outstanding colour, he is is 4.5 months of age. He is a son of Ch Wicani Written in Legend and Wicani Shameless Beauty. He has no clinical signs of cea and we have sent away dna swabs today in order to discover his true eye status. True eye status can only be determined by dna.
We are so thrilled to have these two outstanding young males, half brothers by the stunning blue male 'Epic' who we sent to Finland a few years ago, and now a small part of him has returned.
It is always our intention to maintain a wide and varied gene pool of healthy collies as we feel that the practice of using popular show sires has been to the detriment of the breed. We do not believe improvements can be made to the overall health of any breed, when everyone flocks to use the same sire with every generation!
